Function18: Puma TitanTour Ignite Disc Golf Shoe Review

So as tradition dictates on my Birthday week i headed-out for a round of golf with my friends over at the Saturday Golfers Blog.

I love both watching and playing golf, but like many parents i struggle to find the time to play every weekend. So when i do get a morning or afternoon free i always jump at the chance to head-out on the fairways. This week I headed to the golf course i first played on, Spofforth Golf Course in Harrogate. A pay and play course that punches above it's weight in terms of the quality of the groundsmen-ship and course layout.

Not only was i excited about heading out for some very muddy Birthday golf, but i also got my hands on a new pair of the Puma TitanTour Ignite Disc Golf Shoe from Function18, retailing at £129.99. My current pair of golf shoes are the Puma Biofusion golf shoes and i have worn/trusted these shoes for over two years now.

So not only do i trust the Puma Golf brand i am also a huge fan of Rickie Fowler. He has pushed golf fashion leaps and bounds in recent years, helping shoot-down the old stereotypes and attract new styles, coverage and players into the game.

For those of you not yet familiar with Function18, they are a specialist golf apparel website offering affordable, niche garments, both on and off the golf course. They stock both golf and high street brands, including leading designers such as Galvin Green, FootJoy, Oscar Jacobson, Nike, Adidas and Puma.

The Features

So what do you get for you money and why should you consider the Puma Discs shoes above all others?

Disc Fit System

The best and most glaring obvious feature of the Puma TitanTour Ignite Disc shoe is the disc technology. The disc system replaces traditional laces making it much easier and quicker to fasten-up the shoe. I felt that the benefit of having this in my game as the shoe stayed tight and  locked to my feet. With a simply twist of the disc i was able to (throughout my game) tighten and loosen the shoe as and when i saw fit to do so.

The shoe has something called a low-profile Stealth cleat technology, which basically helps deliver the best possible grip, traction and stability on all surfaces. They have also incorporated flex grooves into the outsole to encourage natural movement of the foot whilst walking and swinging the club - so with all of this in mind the design is built to improve walking comfort and performance!

Looking at the side of Puma Titan Tour shoe you will see the letter PWR Frame on the midsole. Puma have used technology  in the midsole to ensure the best possible cushioning by adding an ultra thin TPU PWRFRAME to add support, strength and increased flexibility to improve the overall comfort and performance.

Others Features

There are plenty of other features that contribute to the Puma TitanTour Ignite Disc golf shoe becoming one of the best and must have shoes on the market today:
  • Premium D2 Insole for long lasting durability
  • Multiple Laces
  • Performance Microfiber
  • New Epic Performance Last
  • Duoflex improves natural movement and provides necessary support
  • GripZone Traction IGNITE Foam provides energy return and responsive comfort
  • Debris-Release Sole
  • Stealth Cleat
  • 2 Year Water Proof
  • Available in white/blue, black/quiet shade, white/black & Grey Violet/White/Grey

In-Play Review

Whilst the shoes and features all look desirable it is how they fared on the course which ultimately that you and i really really care about right? So as mentioned previously we headed out on a rather muddy and slightly wet Sunday morning to our local course.

The Look

The shoes integrated well into my casual golfing attire which was nice to see, it can often be a worry to players when buying new golfing equipment and clothing that what they purchase might not already fit with what they have already. The shoes are easy on the eye and looking at them you can easily tell that they are both unique and top quality.

I honestly couldn't have picked a better time to put a pair of Golf shoes to the test as the ground in parts were boggy and the rain from the night/early morning meant that the shoes got a good soaking. The muddy patches were mainly near the tee-off areas as they were the locations that received the most footfall. I was genuinely impressed at how well they gripped on the wet grass and cut through the mud.

As you can see from the short-clip below just how muddy the course was:

Durability & Movement

Considering it was the first time i had worn the shoes i didn't have any blisters or even feel like they were uncomfortable in anyway shape or form.

I found the shoe to be extremely comfortable and stable at every point of my game. With the grip and disc fitted lock i felt that they were lightweight and moved well with my movements when driving and putting. Whilst the shoes were comfortable i was still able to feel the ground i was standing on, which i think was reassuring when i needed to dig my heals in for those harder shoes in the trickier situations and locations.

As you can see from the image below the shoes had well and truly been caked in grass and mud throughout the round. Whilst the my trousers were a tad wet at the ankles my socks and the shoe were dry. The most impressive thing about the shoe was the fact that through all the mud, puddles and rough, everything was completely dry - so when they say they have two year water proof guarantee you better believe it.

To see how water-proof and durable they were at the end of the round i gave them a good brush down with and they seemed to clean relativity easy. Plus i got the house-pipe for the golf trolley on the shoe to remove the remaining debris, i covered the shoe in water from the house-pipe and none of the water entered the shoe!

So at the end our long round what did i think of the shoe? I loved them, i am flabbergasted at how comfortable they were and how water resistant they were through the entire outing. I would recommend both the Puma TitanTour Ignite Disc Golf Shoe and Function18 to any golfer new, immediate or pro!
