Road Trips: Discovering Natural Beauty

With February well underway most of us are starting to look at summer holiday destinations, whether that be abroad or in the UK. I’m guilty of spending hours browsing online for places to jet off on holiday, especially if it involves a week in the sun lounging by the pool. It wasn’t until recently that I took an interest in a different type of holiday: a Road Trip. When I think back, the thought of a road trip has never really appealed to me but I also wasn’t aware of some of the amazing routes that are on offer.

After looking into some road trips in the UK and abroad, there are a few that were starting to jump out at me and made me want to explore. When I think of a road trip I automatically think of America and Route 66, I don’t really know why. It wasn’t until I carried out some research that I found out there are some breathtaking routes closer to home, allowing you to take in beautiful scenery and create unforgettable moments.

Route One, Iceland

For years now I’ve wanted to visit Iceland and to find out its home to one of Europe’s best road trips is only adding to my desire to visit this amazing country. Route One is a road trip that can take you round the majority of Iceland’s coastline. Starting in Reykjavik, you’ll be taken on a journey to explore some of the natural beauty this country has to offer.

Iceland is a place of natural beauty and offers many photo opportunities. Throughout the 800 mile round trip you’ll be able to capture some of the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. Waterfalls, lava fields, mountains and the chance to see the northern lights are just a few of the reasons why Route One is on my bucket list.

Atlantic Highway, England

A road trip in England is something I really want to do, so I can explore areas I’ve never seen before and discover some of the countries picturesque views. The Atlantic Highway runs through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall allowing you to fully embrace the South West Peninsula.

England is known for its beautiful woodlands, country parks and cute villages and this route guarantees all of them. As well as stopping at local villages with coffee shops and pretty buildings, you can expect picturesque sea views and maybe the odd surfer catching a wave or two. If you really want to appreciate what’s on your door step then this road trip is a must.

Causeway Coastal Route, Ireland

I’ve recently been looking at a trip to Dublin and Belfast, it was here that I discovered the Causeway Costal Route. This route travels the northern coast of the country and lets you truly appreciate how beautiful the country is and what it has to offer.

It’s hard to believe that the breathtaking destinations along the way are so close to home. The route takes you past some of the countries spine tingling scenery and stunning views. The Gobbins, Torr Head and Whitepark Bay are just some of the places you can explore along the way, before visiting the famous Giants Causeway and the reason why this road trip found its name.

After spending quite a bit of time researching the endless amounts of road trips around Europe and the world, it’s safe to safe there’s something for everyone. Whether you a thrill-seeker or one for a relaxing break, it’s worth having a look at the many road trips available.
