Amy Schumer’s Very Realistic Pregnancy Selfie Is So Damn Relatable

Pregnancy is the least glamorous thing ever and we love Amy Schumer for showing that

There has been absolutely nothing glamorous or easy about Amy Schumer’s Pregnancy — and she’s shared plenty of moments from it so far. But it’s the kind of over-sharing that serves a real purpose.

And that purpose is to let everyone know just how awful carrying a child can feel, physically and mentally, for moms everywhere.

Diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum early in her pregnancy, Schumer has captured plenty of not-so-great moments of her pregnancy sickness. She’s been hospitalized. She’s had to reschedule shows on her tour. She’s performed shows on her tour moments after puking her brains out. She’s been puking her brains out, non-stop, since conception basically.

Her latest pregnancy selfie is just the cherry on top of the miserable pregnancy cake, but man — you’ve just got to love and appreciate her humor.

“Am I glowing?” LOL. Oh man. Poor Amy. The IV drip plus hanger — oy. It’s funny, but it’s also in no way an enviable situation.

Back in November, Schumer was hospitalized for hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that causes repeated sickness and nausea and can lead to dehydration and weight loss. She’s expecting her first child with husband Chris Fischer, and is also currently on tour.

What makes her social media posts noteworthy is two-fold. One, it shows a much-less glamorous side to pregnancy than 99.9% of all celebrities would deign to share. Most famous people are all about flower crowns, tender bump cradling, and sharing picture-perfect moments. Which…great. If that’s your thing, that’s fine.

But Amy Schumer has the pregnancy plague and she’s gonna let you know about it.

Which brings us to the other reason her “over-sharing” is valid is because of just how many women have flocked to her comments section to say “SAME HERE.” She’s validating other moms who have suffered similarly taxing pregnancies.

Pregnancy and motherhood can be incredibly isolating experiences, no matter how much support you have around you. Personally, I was sick for the first 12-13 weeks and that was it. I’m not sure my sanity would have remained intact had it gone on any longer (who am I kidding, it absolutely would not have). Sometimes, you just need to know there are other people who “get it.”
