Viral Post Perfectly Captures The Reasons We All Cry In The Shower

Photographer’s moving post captures struggles we can all relate to

Women and mothers, as a whole, are resilient as hell. There are no other living beings on earth better able to adapt to tough circumstances and endure hardships quite like Women. Which is exactly why one woman’s recent Facebook post is going viral — it perfectly captures this notion while offering something every women or mom can relate to.

Being resilient may mean many of us can bounce back from life’s curve balls with newfound strength, but that doesn’t mean we can’t feel incredibly lonely sometimes because of it. Brittany Latham, a photographer based in Alabama, recently shared a post that quickly went viral — because it’s got something for everyone.

“For the woman whose husband makes an ‘extra stop’ after work every evening,” she writes. “For the woman who is mourning the loss of a pregnancy that nobody else knew about. For the woman who was fired for her fourth tardy because she has been awake for a straight week with a sick child.”

Regardless of how much our hardships differ from those of other women, we all know what it’s like to bottle up our personal struggles and persevere.

“For the single mom who doesn’t know how the utilities are going to stay on this month. For the woman who has gone through two IVF’s and has tried for five years without success but still shows up to every baby shower for her friends.”

Latham’s words make it so any woman reading her post finds something for herself in it.

“For the woman that lives a with a quiet anxiety because nobody understands what you could possibly stressed about. For the woman that gives to her family all day- every day and just needs a break.” Anxiety + fear of judgement = motherhood in a nutshell. And for so many of us, by the time evening rolls around and the kids are in bed — it feels like it’s finally our time. Except most of the time we’re too exhausted to enjoy the “break.”

Latham tells Scary Mommy she felt compelled to dedicate her post to women and moms who have struggled and carried on after dealing with a recent obstacle in her own life. “I know many, many women who have carried on through times like that just as I did,” she says.

If we have to slap a smile on our faces when we’re dying on the inside, we do it. There isn’t a mom alive who isn’t intimately familiar with the “shower cry” — it’s the one place we feel we can safely let it all out sometimes. Latham’s post reminds us that even if we feel like crying in the shower keeps us “strong,” it doesn’t mean we’re alone.

“Just because the water washes your tears doesn’t mean that you don’t cry. I am you. I see you. I am with you, I cry with you.”
