Cardi B has apologized to the family of Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr. after portraying his wife Coretta in an insensitive TV show skit.
The rapper appeared in a sketch titled The Real Housewives of the Civil Rights Movement on the Off the Rip show, which aired on Tuesday and upset Dr. Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Martin and Coretta Scott King.
She criticized Cardi for taking part in the “repulsive” skit, which poked fun at her late father’s alleged infidelities, but has since revealed via Twitter the new mom has apologized to her.
“Thank you, @iamcardib, for reaching out to me and apologizing for the skit that aired on @TMZ,” she wrote on Tuesday. “I look forward to talking with you soon.”
The Off the Rip show skit featured Cardi as Coretta taking aim at her husband surrounded by Rosa Parks, Jesse Jackson’s wife, and Malcolm X’s wife, Betty Shabazz, among others, as they plan a civil rights rally.
