Should I replace my YEP321?

Hi everyone.
I’m a UK based amateur, I play in a wind band. I’m not the best player but slowly improving after 30 years or so!

I’ve always had a Yamaha YEP321, and I’m wondering about replacing it. It has an impressive range of dents, which don’t seem to affect the sound - it has a nice tone and stays in tune well, but obviously isn’t as good as other instruments.

I’m not a connoisseur in the way that many of you are, but I have noticed the sound in the lower register is a bit muddy and have wondered about upgrading. And I don’t think it just the speed of my fingers that makes fast bits tricky, so am wondering if others have a quicker valve action.

I’m unlikely to get an absolute top range instrument. My question is - where to look? What’s an upgrade on a 321 - in yamaha terms a 642 is an obvious step. Where do other brands and models sit in comparison?

I think I’d like compensated this time as it should lead to a better sound and I don’t blow as strongly as others. Any advice much appreciated!
