I bought an SKB 375 "universal" case from Music 123 via eBay, for my son to use when travelling by air with his Besson Prestige 2052. Alas, the Horn does not fit the case. The manufacturer's web site shows only 4 models that they have tried with the case (Anthem A-5000, Willson 2950, and Yamahas 201 and 321), but there must be many more, because I have not seen people complaining on the internet about misfits. Also, my Mack Brass 4-valve compensator fits just fine, and that horn matches almost exactly the Yamaha 642, and I'm thinking the 842 as well.
I could ship the case back for a refund, and I might in fact end up doing so. But I'd rather let the sale stick and see if I can find another home for the case. It was an open-box item, sold for just over $170, with free shipping. Street price on this case is $215. I'll sell for $150 (firm) to anyone in or willing to drive to upstate South Carolina. I could also ship it at the buyer's expense; I'd expect USPS shipping to be $30 or more.
I would say that there's a remote possibility that when my son brings his horn home again this weekend we will find a way to make it fit after all by modifying the somewhat soft foam insert to accommodate it. Also I have another son who plays a Besson 967, and his hard case was damaged by airline handling. He lives about 6 hours away, so we can't easily test fit his horn. It's remotely possible that I'll discover that his horn will fit the case, he'll want it, and I'll withdraw the sale offer. Considering both of these scenarios unlikely, I've decided to go ahead and post the case for sale rather than lose time waiting for these other possibilities to resolve.
