I’m a very lucky lady, that have good, solid friends in New Zealand with exquisite ears. These ladies first suggested the Wellington (now Australia based) Bakers Eddy and knocked my boots off. My Auckland mate suggested (over 4 months ago, admittedly) Armed In Advance. Yes ma’am, message taken loud and clear.
Armed In Advance formed in Auckland, NZ roughly around 2013. Their lineup is JP Carroll (guitar and vocals), Hugh Hokopaura (bass), and Ryan Thomas (drums). They’ve decimated the Auckland, then the New Zealand music scene with tasty guitar riffs and a nearly seismic bass and drum combo. Their songs are rife with conflict in both love and life. The single “Pain” hooks you in with a story of love gone wrong and a bass hook for the ages. “Same Old Story” is less crunchy but no less hard hitting. Some might try to pin a Green Day badge on them, but Armed In Advance are way too talented. New Zealand needs to share this band immediately. All their music can be found stateside in all the usual streaming music sites.
