Katy Perry gave a stirring performance on the final day of the Democratic National Convention. Performing her 2013 hit “Roar” along with her newest single “Rise,” Perry began her show by encouraging everyone in attendance to vote.
“I didn’t finish high school and I don’t have a formal education,” the 31-year-old singer admits. “But I do have an open mind, and I have a voice.” The “Firework” singer then urged her fellow democrats to use their own mind and voice in making a difference in this country.
“Rise” was given a surprise release on July 14, 2016 through Capitol records and is available on iTunes. The single will serve as the theme song for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics as a standalone track rather than be included on a full-length album.
You won’t believe what Katy Perry did to support gun control
With the lyrical message of rising above and claiming victory, Perry couldn’t think of a better example than Olympic athletes, who embody “strength” and “fearlessness,” and “remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together.” Watch the inspiring performance below.
