Lana Del Rey Doubles Down On ‘Controversial’ Posts About Rap Stars’ Content

In the past few days, Lana Del Rey has voiced her opinions regarding the popularity of some female artists and the content that they choose to put out. The news ruffled many feathers, but the New York native is staying strong.

Her original thoughts initially took aim at lyricists such as Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Kehlani, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé, who “have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f—ing, cheating, etc.” She then pondered if she could make music “without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse?” pointing out that her recordings have come under scrutiny for what some may perceive as making light of socially unacceptable situations. Del Rey further noted that she’s simply a glamorous person who happens to be taking on such serious subjects. Regardless of that, many people in music as well as fans of the named musicians piled on, calling Lana a list of nasty things.

Since the original barrage of hate, the “Summertime Sadness” singer took back to social media to clear things up, saying “Despite the feedback I’ve heard from several people that I mentioned in a complimentary way, whether it be Ariana or Doja Cat – I want to say that I remain firm in my clarity and stance in that what I was writing about was the importance of self advocacy for the more delicate and often dismissed, softer female personality, and that there does have to be room for that type in what will inevitably become a new wav/3rd wave of feminism that is rapidly approaching. Watch!” Check out the full post below.
