Man Pleads Guilty To Burning Churches To Promote His Black Metal Band

A Louisiana man has pleaded Guilty to burning several historically black Churches in his community as a way to boost his credibility as a Black Metal musician.

Officially, the 22-year-old son of a sheriff’s deputy was arrested last April and now faces three counts of intentionally damaging a religious building — which is classified as a federal hate crime — and one count of using fire to commit a federal felony. When he is sentenced on May 22nd, he may find himself going away for anywhere between 10 and 70 years, the minimum and maximum, respectively.

To add insult to injury, the man also posted about his deeds on social media, including videos of the heinous acts. “The Department of Justice will remain unwavering in its protection of the freedom to practice religion without the threat of discrimination or violence,” Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division stated. “[Defendant] admitted to setting fire to three churches because of their religious character. His disgraceful conduct violated the civil rights of the church’s parishioners and harmed their communities.”

It’s safe to say that this individual will not be having much of a music career any time soon.
