According to Judge John A. Kronstadt’s judgment on the case, the three collaborators on the controversial Star Trak Records-released song are jointly required to pay out the exact total of $4,983,766.85 for copyright infringement and excess damages. As icing on the cake, the Motown singer’s estate will receive half of all “Blurred Lines‘” royalties moving forward.
A representative for Williams described the verdict as “extremely disappointing,” and a “horrible precedent” to set for “music and creativity.” He went on to say, “Pharrell created ‘Blurred Lines’ from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter.”
Regardless of the ruling, “Blurred Lines” is here to stay. Listen to the $5,000,000 song below.
