As summer 2017 comes to a wrap, the crew at Spotify has unveiled their list of the most-streamed of the season. And the winning track should surprise absolutely no one.
Though the record breaking “Despacito (Remix)” didn’t win Song of the Summer at this year’s VMAs, it did top Spotify’s U.S. and global summer lists with more than 786 million streams.
Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” remix featuring Justin Bieber shouldn’t come as a big surprise: The song has been at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 16 consecutive weeks, tying with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” for most consecutive weeks at No. 1. However, Taylor Swift’s new single “Look What You Made Me Do” is expected to block it from breaking it’s run next week.
It’s also not surprising that hip-hop dominated the top 10 on each Spotify summer list. In the U.S., Lil Uzi Vert’s “XO Tour Llif3” came in at No. 2, followed by DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. French Montana’s “Unforgettable” with Swae Lee took the No. 4 slot, while Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” rounded out the top five.
