Get To Know Sha Sha Jones, The Singer-Songwriter Behind “The Urban Galaxy Project”

Sha Sha Jones has been making a name of her own!

Famously known as a YouTube sensation, Sha Sha picked up the mic at a really young age. Shortly after finishing high school, she moved from Oklahoma to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams and aspirations. Needless the say, Sha Sha has been penning out some of our favorite songs for artists like Omarion, Mya, and Tamar Braxton, just to name a few.

RnBass.com recently caught up with the singer-songwriter to talk about her newly released EP, The Urban Galaxy Project, what she hopes to achieve in 2017 and much more. – Lupe Looove

For those who don’t know, who is Sha Sha Jones and how has being from Oklahoma affected your music?

Sha Sha Jones is an artist and a songwriter from Oklahoma. I moved to Los Angeles for about 6 years and I would say being from Oklahoma has affected my music in a good way because we listen to a lot of country music here (Oklahoma). They’re always supporting their local artists. I’ve had the opportunity to be played on radio stations and got so much loved. When it came to moving to California, I got a lot of writing done and people got to hear a lot of my music.

When would you say you started to take music seriously that you realized this is my thing?

Oh man…. Since I was young. My mom and dad were involved in music before they had me so it was kind of instilled in me. I grew up on church music and growing up, I could always hear the reaction from people when they would hear me sing, so singing has always been my passion.

You just dropped your project, The Urban Galaxy Project a few months back. Tell us a little more about that and the meaning behind it?

The Urban Galaxy Project is a statement of me living in a place of endless possibilities towards sound. This project defines my versatility, my honesty and it expresses my feelings about love. I also wanted to create a project that would touch every demographic of music consumers.

When it comes to you personally, do you prefer songwriting over recording and why?

I love to hear my voice, so I’m always recording more than anything and songwriting came right along. It was actually in high school when I took a writing class, that’s how my writing started to flourish, which then lead to my songwriting.

You recently also linked up with The Game for your single “LIT,” which picked up a lot of buzz. How did that collaboration come about?

Yes, I was in my North Hollywood studio at that time when I was recording music. Turns out The Game was also recording music a few doors down, when he heard my voice and asked me if I wanted to take part in his Documentary Part 2 album, I jumped on that opportunity. We worked together for about 4 months and when it came to my project, we made it happen with my single “LIT.”

Now I know we just started the New Year but what’s next for Sha Sha in 2017? Can you see you dive into a few more things?

Definitely, there’s a lot more coming in 2017. I just dropped my single “G.O.A.L.S.” (Go Out And Love Somebody), and we’re about to release the video for it as well. I also would like to get into some acting this year as well as performing.
