Van Halen – Jump – ft Sara Loera

Eddie Van Halen’s use of a synthesizer as the main instrument for “Jump” marked a huge departure for the band and apparently was met with strong resistance by David Lee Roth.

All my Van Halen fans out there, I want to know how you all felt about the tune’s stark change from the band’s earlier stuff. Share with me in the comments!

Though the song went on to become the band’s most successful single and their only number one hit with Roth as lead singer, it is rumored to have been the catalyst for his leaving the group the following year.

According to Daryl Hall, Eddie Van Halen told him the synth line he came up with was taken from Hall & Oates’ “Kiss On My List”.

Sara Loera is taking on the tune in today’s video. Let us know what you thought!
