Yellow Branch – “Been Here”

Yellow Branch impresses with the track “Been Here,” aesthetically sounding like a cross of King Krule and Mac DeMarco. Ghostly, wordless vocals and creaky guitars assemble an intriguing beginning. The vocals’ initial nonchalance provides a striking contrast to the subsequent rise, apparent around the one-minute mark. Here, the vocal refrain plays with hypnotic delight, while also exuding a convincing sense of yearning. Subtle integration of brass past the two-minute mark adds a nice flair, as the track comes to a satisfying close. Yellow Branch certainly makes a mark with “Been Here.”

Yellow Branch elaborates more on the track below:

“I recorded, mixed and mastered this song — my first real single. It’s about feeling stuck in destructive cycles, wanting change, and being frustrated with these slow, difficult processes, as well as seeing toxic masculinity normalized but trying to confront and root it out in myself. I’ll be releasing more singles toward an EP in the coming months.”

“Been Here” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2021’ Spotify playlist.
