The first single from Andrew Goldring’s debut album Fluorescent Memories, “Chemical Spirit Connection” is an upbeat indie-rock success whose lyrics recall a strange encounter one night at the neighborhood dive bar. The initial guitars play a simple and catchy progression, the vocals quickly kicking in to lead the suavely effective verses. “Stuck like a broken record, spun out repeating all your lines,” the melodic chorus repeats through alongside fluid guitars that evolve into a wave of distortion in the ensuing bridge. A transition around the two-minute mark is supremely melodic, Goldring’s soaring vocals and soothing guitar frequencies playing wonderfully. “Chemical Spirit Connection” is a strong effort start to finish.
Fluorescent Memories follows 2017’s EP Morning Light which drew praise from Huffington Post, Substream Magazine, and other notable press outlets. The new album was co-produced by Jon O’Brien (Young the Giant, Listener) and mastered by Philip Shaw Bova (Andy Shauf, Bahamas, Land of Talk). It covers themes of joy, sadness, death, and romance, intermingling across the ten tracks.
“Chemical Spirit Connection” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.
The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Rock.
