The emotive vocals and jangly guitars to start Dialup Ghost’s “PPSSP” exudes a vibe reminiscent of Teenage Fanclub — and enjoyably so. I’m fond of this loose-hanging vein of jangly power-pop, and “PPSSP” captures that well. The bass-fronted section around 01:30 captivates in its added variation, with the ensuing guitar escalation around 01:41 adorning the nasally vocals with melodic precision. The “dear Esperanza (?)” repetition plays infectiously with the doubting lyrics, as the track ends with a hypnotic and jangly charm. I enjoyed “PPSSP” quite a bit; it’s one of many highlights throughout the Nashville-based band’s impressive new album I’m Fine, I’m Fine, streaming in full below:
“PPSSP” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.
The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Folk-Rock.
