G-Eazy has achieved mainstream success with his platinum album, When It’s Dark Out, but the Oakland native hasn’t forgotten his roots. His new music video for “Calm Down” features appearances by Bay Area legends E-40, Too $hort, and the late Mac Dre‘s mother, Mac Wanda, as well as new school leaders Nef the Pharaoah, Jay Ant, P Lo, and Kool John.
Ultimately, the “Calm Down” music video is just the latest instance of G-Eazy showing his expertise at balancing the mainstream with his roots. For every appearance on the Ghostbusters soundtrack and on Britney Spears’ first single in several years, the rapper has a guest verse on the aforementioned YG remix and another with rising San Francisco rapper Larry June.
Branching out while satisfying the fans who were there from the beginning is no easy task, but it appears G-Eazy has it down pat.
