On August 27, ATLiens, the second studio album by OutKast, will celebrate its 20th birthday. The album was one of a handful of notable sophomore efforts to be released in 1996 and it was released a little over a year after OutKast took home the Best New Artist award at the 1995 Source Awards. You know, the one where Big Boi and Andre 3000 were showered with boos as they accepted the award in front of the New York crowd. But, as history tells the tale, feelings towards the eclectic duo from Atlanta very quickly revered course in the years that followed.

It’s true, OutKast has been shelved in recent years, with the exception being a run of shows celebrating the group’s 20th anniversary in 2014, but neither member has slowed down all that much.

In a recent interview with Spin, Big Boi did a lot of reminiscing about his OutKast days. But what was possibly most exciting was when he started talking about the future and current projects he was working on.

“And me and Killer Mike, we’re gonna put out a little EP after I put out my next solo record or something like that. We’ve been entertaining the idea for a long time and finally got enough songs to where we just said the other night that we’re gonna do it. You getting a scoop there.”

Who knows how serious of a “scoop” it actually is, but it sure is fun getting hyped about a possible collaboration between the Atlanta rappers. Although you have to wonder, between Run the Jewels, stumping for Bernie Sanders and offering up political commentary, how does Killer Mike even have time to talk about a project with Big Boi, let alone record one.

“Killer Mike is busy as hell. I mean, he’ll come straight from the airport and go into the studio and bust on two or three records and come back again the next day. We’re just trying to put as many ideas out there as possible.”

Well okay then. I’ll be standing and waiting aggressively.
