Police Protested Outside Beyonce’s ‘Formation’ Tour Stop In Houston With A Bright, Blue Light

The anti-Beyonce movement that was supposed to form in the wake of Super Bowl 50 has been a bit of a non-starter, at least until the singer returned home to Houston for her “Formation Tour.” It was there that the Coalition of Police and Sheriffs (COPS) staged a protest on Saturday, May 7.

The pro-police group got in formation about a mile from Houston’s Nrg Stadium and shined a Bright Blue Light at the venue to protest what they see as Beyonce’s anti-police message. “Some of her performances we believe to be anti-police,” COPS member Tony Ragsdale told Houston CBS affiliate KHOU 11.

Beyonce addressed claims previously that her “Formation” video and Black Panther-inspired Super Bowl performance were anti-police in an interview with Elle.

“Anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken. I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of the officers who sacrifice themselves to keeps us safe,” she said. “But let’s be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things. If celebrating my roots and culture during Black History Month made anyone uncomfortable, those feelings were there long before a video and long before me.”

Ever the master of her own public image, King Bey has already co-opted the protest movement against her and painted it as a positive. If those cops had set foot inside NRG Stadium, they would have found that “Boycott Beyonce” shirts are readily available to buyers.
