Russ keeps on talking the talk and walking the walk with his latest cut, “To Be Honest.” Following the same train of thought as “Do It Myself,” he’s all about laying his thoughts on the line without telling a lie about where he stands on racism, the everlasting appeal of new p*ssy, his reluctance to pay Sallie Mae and more nestled into the lyrics.
“To be honest I’m tired of my family needin money
To be honest my visions always been twenty twenty
To be honest I’m questioning where your heart lies
To be honest America means apartheid
To be honest I f*ck way too many chicks raw
To be honest Saudi King might cut my d*ck off
To be honest white people are some terrorists
To be honest I feel a way about sharing this”
He also manages to weave in notes about where his career’s headed, mentioning meetings with Lyor and the fact that his debut’s tucked away on his iPod. For anyone still snoozing, “Honest” is more or less a couple of pages out of the young man’s diary set to melodic production that makes for a nice way to get to know who Russ is and what he’s capable of.
