Certain shoes require no huge ad campaign or sensationalized storytelling to make them appeal to customers. Reebok’s readying a monster set of 20 colorways for Allen Iverson’s Question Mid and doing it the right way by leading with the ‘Red Toe’ version. With 20 total colorways set to drop for the model’s 20th anniversary, the OGs are one that need no hype behind them because they come with their own folklore.
March 12, 1997. That’s the night a then rookie Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers took on His Airness Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. That’s literally all the setup anyone really needs before their mind involuntarily flashes back to that moment in time. On what should’ve been an ordinary Wednesday night in the NBA ended up with history being made.

You’ve seen the video clip before. Probably peeped it as a GIF on social media or referenced in countless articles since March 1997. When The Answer rocked Money with that crossover, he burned the moment into our collective minds. But, you know what usually no one remembers to mention? Mike scored on a dunk easy right after that play. But, of course, no one paid attention.
Twenty years later, all anyone cares to remember about that game is AI’s killer instinct, his gifted hands and those quick feet. And, what shoes were wrapped around his ankles? The ‘Red Toe’ joints. When you really stop and think about it, Jordan had his fair share of memorable moments on the Court that helped push certain sneakers to icon status. If there was ever a play where MJ was the victim instead of the aggressor, it was when Hampton’s finest rocked him to sleep.
Enough time has passed that we can say the Question Mid is a classic. It’s the first shoe worn on the court by top first round draft pick during his first year in the league. History couldn’t have been scripted any better for the former Hoya and The Vector brand. Beyond the court, the shoe has been retroed many times in more colors than a king-size bag of Skittles. But, you’d be hard pressed to name any GR versions more beloved than the OG’s with their pearlized red leather toe and iced-out outsole. And, they’re coming around again this Friday, February 12th on Reebok.com, Finish Line and additional retailers.
