Last weekend saw the final parties for Series 002 of Printworks. With a double whammy of events on both Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December.

Printworks, an old newspaper printing mill was unveiled earlier this year, as a new multipurpose event space in London. In February they opened their doors to the public for the first time, changing the face of London’s fading nightlife and bringing the capital ever closer to the European competition. Hailed as the UK’s answer to Berghain, Printworks has firmly put us back on the map.

Across over 30 weekends over the course of the year, we’ve seen everyone from the Gorillaz to Chemical Brothers grace the notorious Press Halls.

The series end comes soon after the news that LWE will actually be parting ways with Printworks. Being that LWE are one of London’s best promoters, and purveyors of the techno scene within the capital, this does leave a rather big question mark over the future of the venue. Printworks will continue to run events with the remaining partners, however, the direction that these will take is somewhat questionable at this time.

Watch this space, we will, of course, be waiting with bated breath to see what will be of this incredible venue.

Despite the closing weekend being disrupted by the oh so unpredictable British weather, which resulted in both Richie Hawtin and Chris Liebing unable to attend, it went out with an absolute bang! Nicole Moudaber and Luciano played extended sets to a sold-out room and it was hard to imagine that anyone might’ve been missing from the lineup.

Luciano, taking over headline duties played a set that journeyed right from progressive techno to disco and absolute house classics! Hearing Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’ and Derrick May’s ‘Strings of Life’ on that sound system, in that room is something I won’t ever forget.

It’s hard not to feel slightly emotional about the short-lived experience we’ve had with Printworks. Walking into the Press Halls for the first time only 11 months ago, and being one of the many people to gawp at the sheer size of it, and seeing that lighting rig perform as it did, just left you in a state of awe.

In 2016 the state of Londons nightlife was looking rather bleak, with the closure of Fabric – the capitals longest running nightclub.

In 2017 Fabric reopened, all was not lost, and Printworks was brought to the table.

It may have only been around for 11 months, but it’s burgeoning success will surely make a lasting impression on the future of Londons thriving scene.

We are now awake to the possibilities that are out there, and the public clearly wants more. What happens in 2018 might be a mystery at this moment in time, but it sure is exciting!
