Mixtape Monday is back, bringing you the best free (and legal) downloads from the darkest corners of the interwebs. This week we bring you some great tracks from NARCS, The Anchoress, Protomartyr, Gorgeous Bully, and Shallows.
NARCS
Taken from their current album ‘A Thinking Animal’, NARCS have made ‘Swinehound’ available for free download. The raucously moreish track is gilded with a bold bass groove, later moving into harmonious post-rock – a perfect intro the band if they’re not on your radar already. NARCS will be playing a free show at Birthdays, London UK on 1 September 2016.

The Anchoress
Taken from her dark, complex ‘Confessions of a Romance Novelist’ album out now, The Anchoress is currently giving away the title track on Bandcamp. Bold and brimming with witty introspection, The Anchoress easily draws comparisons to a Kate Bush you wouldn’t want to fuck with, and John Grant, but maintains her own space on the pedestal with this sophisticated break-up track that’s perfectly polished yet remains so rightfully edgy.

Protomartyr
The Adult Swim Singles Series is back, and Protomartyr are first on the menu with ‘Born To Be Wine’, an against-the-wall charger of a track in both presentation of distortion of riff and almost-spat delivery of lyric. Supremely rough around the edges but gleaming between raging post-rock choruses, the Detroit outfit bulldoze themselves into your ears with this latest offering.
Listen ‘Born To Be Wine’ by Protomartyr, and download it for free at the Adult Swim Singles website:
Gorgeous Bully
Currently putting material out via the Art Is Hard imprint, Gorgeous Bully’s hazy bedroom rock packs a punch with warm, glitchy riffs that evoke the Hinds sort of perfectly imperfect.

Shallows
‘Pale’ is an uplifting indie-rock track from Liverpool trio Shallows, suspended heavily within stadium-sized heights and metamorphosing into a danceable synth breakdown as it ends. Soaring and uncomplicated, it’s a worthwhile addition to your seasonal playlist for sure!
Check out ‘Pale’ below, and head to the band’s website to get the track for free in exchange for your email address:
