Alessi’s Ark, aka Alessi Laurent-Marke is a long-time NEN fave, and her latest single is a pure reminder of why – here’s ‘Devant Moi’.

‘Devant Moi’ evokes that delicious head-in-clouds vibe from Alessi’s first album, ‘Notes From The Treehouse’ (2009) but takes on a new lease of life with spacey synths and jaunty piano. It’s the latest track from Alessi’s Ark since her fourth studio album, ‘Love Is The Currency’, that landed in 2017.

“’Devant Moi’ is the connection felt between true partners, taking that leap and being open to love with another being. I feel such a strong connection to water when swimming, the ground when walking, it’s so visceral, physical, intimate, medicinal… but only to a point. ‘Devant Moi’ is about being ready, at last, to share intimacy after a long period spent alone in connection with nature only.”

Unchartered territory this is for Alessi, whose mother tongue is French. ‘Devant Moi’ is a gentle, rousing track that plays upon her unique take on noticing the unnoticed, taking influence from classic French recordings by Francoise Hardy, Jacqueline Taeib and France Gall.

Alessi also reveals a snippet from recording the track: “‘Devant Moi’ was recorded in Jason’s (producer) cabin and his dogs Shadow and Saxon lay on the cabin floor sleeping during the majority of the session.”
