Here’s who should be on your radar at Slam Dunk Festival 2017

With just under three weeks to go until Slam Dunk Festival opens it’s gates in Leeds, Birmingham and Hatfield, we’ve scoured the line-up to recommend the best new talent you would be a fool to miss.

If you’re one of the lucky ones to have nabbed a ticket to Slam Dunk (both South and North venues have now sold out), then you’ll most certainly be dusting of your old copies of Enter Shikari’s ‘Take To The Skies’ in anticipation for their 10 year celebration of its release, or  preparing to button down the hatches for the mayhem brought on by special guests Bury Tomorrow or Beartooth on the Jågermeister Stage.

You’ll perhaps also be looking forward to Bowling For Soup, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake and Cute Is What We Aim For taking up nostalgia duties across the Fireball and Monster Energy stages, along with the reformation of Madina Lake and the last ever performances from We Are The Ocean. But with so many great acts playing throughout the one day event, Slam Dunk will also be host to some of the best new talent emerging from the heavy scene in 2017; so we’ve scoured the line-up to recommend who you should definitely check out before heading to see the big dogs on the main stages.

Sorority Noise – Signature Brew Stage

The Connecticut based quartet’s latest album ‘You’re Not As ___ As You Think’ stemmed from a place derived from grief and depression set on a bed of soothing indie-rock that has made it an addictive listen since March. Bringing their sound to the Signature Brew Stage across all three locations, expect captivating moments of solemnity that’ll have you holding your mates hand for support before heading to the pit…maybe.

Boston Manor – The Key Club Stage

Keep an eye out for Blackpool’s Boston Manor as big things are starting to head their way…and rightly so. Treading a thin line between pop-punk and emo, these Northern lads have just got back from an American tour with Moose Blood, pit stopping on a quick tour of the UK (including Slam Dunk) before heading out to Warped Tour this summer. Having emerged onto a thriving British pop-punk scene back in 2013, Boston Manor have honed in on their DIY ethos to produce a sound that both live and recorded is sing-along fun, exciting and just a little bit indulging with throbbing bass lines and racing drums.

Grumble Bee – UPRAWR Stage

Soaring choruses, intricate time changes and heavy riffs are what Grumble Bee (AKA Jack Bennett) is making his name for. This time around he’ll be taking to the UPRAWR Stage for an acoustic set. Expect brooding R&B vocals set in a myriad of alt-rock melodies that you won’t be able to get out of your head for days.

Vukovi – Rock Sound Breakout Stage

Glaswegian four-piece Vukovi are a force to be reckoned with. With a playful approach to their day-glo soaked songwriting that delves into themes of depression and abusive relationships, the band’s live show will have you mesmerised and dancing from start to finish: as front-woman Janine Shilstone can command a crowd from the slightest nuance in her voice to the sultry wink of an eye.

Black Foxxes – The Key Club Stage

Melody driven, guitar led soundscapes drive Black Foxxes sound. The three piece are rumoured to be back in the studio recording the follow-up to their debut album, ‘I’m Not Well’, which propelled the band from little known faces to princes of the emotional rock ballad stifled in glorious fuzzy guitars and distorted bass that will get your heart racing.

Sylar – Rock Sound Breakout Stage

Looking for down-tuned riffage and breakdowns? Head to the Rock Sound Breakout Stage to catch Queens based quintet Sylar. The band’s second album ‘To Whom It May Concern’ managed to put them on the map over here in the UK, and last years ‘Help!’ has only made us even more intrigued how their aggressive metallic-hardcore is translated in a live setting.

SHVPES – Impericon Stage

If you haven’t heard of SHVPES yet, then you need to. The Birmingham based brutes have been taking the rock world by storm, having toured with the likes of Crossfaith, Bring Me The Horizon and Bullet For My Valentine: and proclaim to challenge the definition of heavy music — merging their wide ranging influences from pop, hip-hop and electronica by channeling them into their own sound.

Slam Dunk Festival takes place on 27-29 May in Leeds (North), Birmingham (Midlands) and Hatfield (South). Tickets have sold out for both North and South locations, but there are still some left for the Midlands here.
