Tags: matty marcos park

Ladies and gentlemen!  Boys and girls.  Fellow music enthusiasts.  It is my great pleasure to bring you the next edition of Fistful of Questions featuring the lone star trio known as Psychic Love Child.

What is your full name?

PARKS: Parker Hernandez

MARCOS: Marcos Mateus

MATTY: Matthew Posey

Do you have any aliases?

PARKS: TinyP

MARCOS: Some people call me the Sweet Prince. It is not a self-given nickname. Lol

MATTY: Matty Po

What bands are you actively involved with?

ALL: Psychic Love Child is our only project!

What was the first instrument that you played?

PARKS: Shit, probably Harmonica, then guitar.

MATTY: DRAMSSSSS. Only drums.

MARCOS: Singing. I only was able to sing for so very long.

Tell me about one of your first musical memories?

MARCOS: The first time I ever sang to someone was a Backstreet Boys song to get this girl to date me when I was like 7 or 8. Since then I was hooked to performing for people.

PARKS: My family has these big Puerto Rican Christmas Eve parties and live music is always a big part of it and I remember one year getting a Harmonica passed to me and I hit a couple of notes that sounded good and I haven’t stopped playing since.

MATTY: I was at my friend’s dad’s funeral, and they were doing a church service. The drummer didn’t show up and they came to me and wanted me to drum and i didn’t wanna do it and i kept telling him no, but like his dad had just died so i was like ugh i guess i have to do it, and I just killed it up there. Just me and a church organ at a funeral.

What was the name of the first band you were in?

MARCOS: The Automatak

PARKS: The Perks

MATTY: Scarlet Thread

Tell me about the genesis of Psychic Love Child.

All: In an underground CIA lab, the band was created in an experimental detonation of a faulty gamma radiation bomb.

What inspired the name Psychic Love Child?

ALL: The name was a suggestion from a former member and the brain behind Breathing Rainbow. Shout out to Jonahs, you should check them out!

Is there an EP or full-length forthcoming?

ALL: Yes, we have a ton of stuff coming out. We have lots of content that we’re excited to share with you!

If you could insert yourself into any one band what band would it be and why?

MARCOS: Maybe something like The Killers. Just to be in a band that’s able to play massive shows and festivals worldwide ya know. Sounds so dope.

PARKS: I would probably say Pond or the Gizz.

MATTY: King Gizz, there’s so many members you could just slip right in. Plus they just lost a drummer so i could fill in.

Have you ever heard a song and immediately wished you had written it?  If so… What was the song and artist?

MATTY: MGMT - Time To Pretend

MARCOS: Baby - Justin Bieber

Do you have any non-rock/metal musical inspirations?

MATTY: A$AP ROCKY

MARCOS: Yes, I enjoy all kinds of music! I like country, hip hop, electronic, jazz, etc. Honestly, I listen to all kinds of music and I know that’s typically a cop out, but I mean it.

PARKS: Same as Marky ^

Name a song that you'd like to do a cover of.

MATTY: Moby Dick - Zeppelin

MARCOS: She’s Not There - The Zombies

PARKS: Cars - Gary Numan

What band have you witnessed live that has really impressed you with their live show?

MATTY: Mutemath always had the craziest light shows and crowd surfed lit up mattresses, let the audience play their own made up musical toys and were constantly in the crowd. Darren King is THE King.

MARCOS: I saw Death Cab for Cutie with an orchestra live and that was one of the best things I’ve ever seen musically.

PARKS: I saw Dr. Dog in high school and it was glorious.

The year is 2010.  Where are you at and what are you listening to?

MATTY: living with my brother annoying him partying way too much. Listening to Modest Mouse, PTM, Cage The Elephant and countless others

MARCOS: ooooh those days were tough. Probably like Portugal. The Man, Fleet Foxes, Phoenix and a lot of Fall Out Boy probs hahah.

PARKS: Most likely The White Stripes! Maybe some Biggie Smalls.

What is an absolute band killer?

MATTY: Significant others.

MARCOS: Lack of Communication.

PARKS: Clashing personalities.

What’s the longest time you’ve gone without bathing?

MATTY: Probably 5 days? No clue. 5 is definitely way too long.

MARCOS: Oooh. I’ve probably gone at least 3 days before in High School or something.

PARKS: It was quarantine and it was 3 days.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

MATTY: I’m actually a sweetheart. I’m only an asshole because I'd rather hurt you before you hurt me.

MARCOS: I have never had a fruit or vegetable.

PARKS: I one time played an acoustic set opening for MC Hammer.

What are a couple of things that people absolutely need to know about Dallas, Texas?

MATTY: It’s not just Cowboys and horses everywhere. Pretty normal city compared to the rest of the country.

MARCOS: Dallas is pretty cool if you know where to look. There’s a lot of culture in the city that keeps the professionalism at bay.

You are writing a book about your life thus far.  What is the title of that book?

MATTY: I Tried.

MARCOS: The Sweetest Prince: A Memoir

PARKS: Matty Tried.

What is your favorite song by The Grateful Dead?

MATTY: I got respect for the Dead but i’m no Dead head so I wouldn’t know

MARCOS: I get that I look like Jerry Garcia fairly often, so I should know some Dead, but sadly, I do not.

PARKS: I gotta say it’s between Box of Rain and Fire on The Mountain.

Is the Fistful of DOOM show in the top 10 of your favorite music podcasts?

MATTY: Number one!

MARCOS: Yeah, of course!

PARKS: Hell yes it is.

Do unicorns sleep standing up?

MATTY: Yes. Because, Magic.

MARCOS: I think maybe they sleep upside down like a bat.

PARKS: Do they need sleep?

Doobies or Boobies (if you had to pick one)?

MATTY: Doobies. I’m more of an ass man anyways.

MARCOS: Doobies for sure. I’m an ass man as well.

PARKER: We’re all in agreement here. I’m just happy I don’t have to choose irl.

Waffles or Pancakes (if you had to pick one)?

MATTY: Waffles all day.

MARCOS: Pancakes for sure. They’re just better and anyone who says waffles is wrong.

PARKS: Band drama ^ :/ both please!

Star Wars or Star Trek (if you had to choose)?

MATTY: Star Wars, no debate.

MARCOS: Definitely Star Wars. I have a soul bond with angsty Anakin.

PARKS: Star Wars.

Favorite band t-shirt you own?

MATTY: The Black Angels

MARCOS: I have a “Don’t Mess with Fall Out Boy” shirt that has Texas on it. Love it.

PARKS: Grateful Dead Ship of Fools

Favorite meal?

MATTY: Anything Italian. Pasta and bread baby.

MARCOS: Oooooh. It’s gotta be a double cheeseburger from mcdonalds. I know it’s horrible to say, but that’s the truth.

PARKS: Oh man. Steak, sautéed veggies, and potatoes may be my fav.

Favorite book?

MATTY: The type of book I can stream to my TV and don’t have to read.

MARCOS: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

PARKS: I love Rendezvous with Rama.

MARCOS: Yeesh! That’s a hard one as well. I’d have to say Spun.

PARKY: I have to say 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Favorite album?

MATTY: Again, impossible to answer so i’ll just mention the most recent album i’ve been loving and it’s The Babe Rainbow’s self titled album from 2017. From start to finish it’s just a really great record.

MARCOS: I’m gonna have to say Transatlantacism by Death Cab for Cutie. It’s an album that I can listen to from front to back at literally any time. 88008

PARKS: So tough to answer. Some of my favorites are Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Pet Sounds, Bloom, Nonagon Infinity, Sgt. Pepper’s, and soo many more.

Thanks mucho to Matty, Marcos and Parks for taking the time to answer my questions.  I appreciate it.  Be sure to bounce on over to Bandcamp and bask in the sonic glow that is Psychic Love Child.  I highly recommend it.
