Rapper Rick Ross announced that he was signed to a new label. The self-proclaimed “bawse” has just inked a deal with Epic Records, according to the label’s Twitter account. “Welcome @rickyrozay to the #Epic family,” tweeted the label on Friday, January 15. The MMG head honcho was formerly signed to Def Jam records.
Rumors that there were creative differences between Ross and Def Jam have been circulating for years. Ross just recently dropped his Black Market album through Def Jam in December, which must have fulfilled his contract.
This deal has been in the works for a few months now. Back in September, Ross posted a photo with L.A. Reid, the current CEO of Epic, and a caption that hinted they were in negotiations. Being signed to Epic reunites Ross with Reid, who is Def Jam’s former CEO. He is still affiliated with Atlantic, which is the parent company to his MMG imprint.
