5 SPOT: Relax With Cleopold's "Altitude & Oxygen" EP

The R&B/Soul artist Cleopold has given us 5 songs perfect for a night drive. The bliss begins with...

"Not Coming Down"

The dreamy track called "Not Coming Down" tells the story of someone daydreaming. They speak of this special unnamed person making them feel like they are above the clouds and that they aren't coming down any time soon. "Every time I think of you I drift into the sky," sings Cleopold. The track features synths reminiscent of decades ago and the drum beat is one that we picture a lot of people dancing to.

"The Space Between"

Beginning with a succession of fast piano arpeggios, "The Space Between" quickly drops into a groove of bounciness. "Does it hurt to remember the way it all went oh so wrong that night" is the first line sung and you know this song is one that is heartfelt and personal. Cleopold documents his struggle of getting this specific individual out of his head and just wanting things to be okay.

"Down In Flames"

The 3rd track on the EP begins with 25 seconds of electronic flairs combined with a dreamy instrument on top. Overall, "Down In Flames" is more laid back and simpler than others but certainly makes a statement. The choruses stand out because of a certain pulsating and repetitious descending noise. The bridge features guitar strummed in an almost awkward manner and it fits so, so nicely. And... who doesn't love tight percussion?

This one is a change of pace for the clear fact that it is totally instrumental. The 1 minute 42 second track is ambient to say the least with the drums in the forefront as other instruments come and go in the background. Let your mind especially wander with this one.

"Scarlet" is characterized by bouncy bass and quick little guitar riffs over keyboard chords and a steady hi hat/clap pattern. This one is in the same vein as whatever genre you'd categorize the 1975. Lyrically, Cleopold mentions having a hollow heart but having this person named Scarlet in his arms leaving the story open to many different angles of interpretation.
