Daroline Silent Disco

Context: this project was for a friend’s wedding. The friends met at the Southport weekender and everyone attending were real music lovers. The reception was in a Villa in Ibiza with full DJ set up. Unfortunately, the music had a curfew of midnight. So to extend the night one of the organisers asked if I’d put together a mix for a Silent Disco. I was honoured. We request songs from guests, that had meaning to the couple, they also recorded a dedication. The silent disco was uploaded to mp3 players prior to the reception. At midnight we had a synchornised start and hey presto… a silent disco.

Mix info… I received about 50 tracks, selected individually. I normally like eclectic, but this pushed it to the limit: songs range from D&B, motown, rock, pop, house. From artists like Dean Martin, Queen, Katy Perry, Dennis Ferrer…. etc I then tried to put all the songs together into a cohesive mix and overdub the dedications. It may be a strange mix to listen to, but I thought it may be of interest, as it’s a bit different, so I’ve posted it.

Mix was put together on Ableton, not actual decks. A lot of the songs are pre-electronic music (quantized beats) so I had to do a bit of preparation work to enable the songs to be mixed over any period of time.

Let me know your thoughts.
