4 Barrel Hemi. – High Octane

4 Barrel Hemi. are a 5 piece hard rock/punk band from Sydney’s Northern Beaches who have no pretences about their musical or philosophical approach to life.  And nothing is more clearly demonstrated than on their latest release High Octane.

If life states that there is “no substitute for cubes”, then this tyre smoking, shredding compilation could possibly be one of the best hard rock laid down on a CD over the last decade.

While influences can be heard on this pounding 10 track disc, there is a distinctive Aussie flavour clearly indicative of their overall nature where they would never try to be anything but just good hard rock band. To say they have achieved their goal would be an understatement.

From the opening track “Stop Wasting time” through to “High Octane Blues”, 4 Barrel Hemi. adopt a Joey Ramone’esque vision of creating “a wall of sound”. They pre-empt each note with focus being placed entirely on the output of genre and style rather than being too adventurous thus avoiding the ultimate the risk of alienating listeners.

This hard “charger” slab of rock is relentless throughout. There are no sleeper/filler numbers on it. Tracks like “Bland Land” and “Hail to The Chief” while familiar in style, cleverly combine quivering stretched vocals over the crashing rhythm section while maintaining the unflagging wall of rock resonating in your ears.

This is an impressive slab from 4 Barrel Hemi. : a band that will play a big hand in the rebirth of rock this time round.

So stop wastin’ time! This is the Last Chance Saloon of High Octane Blues that will save us all from the lynch mob otherwise fondly referred to as corporate radio.

It is what it is, The Prodigal Son has returned in the Bland Land of hearing any form of rock on our radios and Hail to The Chief that put this cd together: 4 Barrel Hemi. are Disarmed and Dangerous.

Nothing cryptic about 4 Barrel Hemi.’s instructions on the liner notes ”this recording should be played very loud”.

CD a must have, and you will be busting to see them live, well done guys, Beautiful stuff.
