“Soultime” is out now on “FMR Records”. Album was recorded by five featured jazz stars – Paul Dunmall (tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, penny whistle), Percy Pursglove (trumpet), Steve Tromans (piano), Dave Kane (bass) and Hamid Drake (drums, frame drum). Five great jazz stars are creating exciting and inspiring sound. The music is totally based on the newest innovations of experimental and avant-garde jazz. Free improvisations always is the basic of the compositions – it gives an opportunity to improvise without any strict rules and to express huge range of emotions and original expressions. Musicians have Expressive and dynamic Playing manner. Their music is mostly based on contrasting mood – it’s constructed by using dozens of illustrative and independent musical patterns. Musicians like to put together uncompairable and individual compounds – that’s how they get interesting stylistic allusions, innovative and experimental instrumental section, driving and expressive spontaneously made solos, virageous, dizzy, charming, light and simply marvelous culminations. Musicians are open to new ideas, rare combos, pleasant surprises, sudden changes, extraction of strange timbres, special effects and fascinating experiments. That makes an effort to original and expressive sound.

The main basics and roots of 1960’s and 1970’s avant-garde jazz streams, the newest innovations of experimental jazz, main basics of free improvisation are joined together in “Soultime”. The album has active, energetic and dynamic mood. The musicians are experimenting on all fields of musical language. They manage to create rich and vivid musical language by using huge range of rare, exotic, traditional, colorful, surprising, thrilling or simply weird expressions, rhythms and chords. The musicians create inventive instrumental section – it’s based on various Playing Techniques. Experimental, surprising, innovative, home-made and specific ways of playing, special effects and sound experiments contain the main base of instrumental section. Musicians don’t forget very well-known, usual, expressive and effective playing techniques – all these elements are gently integrated to the one instrumental section. An artsy and organic synthesis between dozens of playing techniques makes an effort to driving, expressive, energetic and vibrant instrumental section, who has suggestive, hypnotising and unique sound. Stable harmony line is based on all kinds of chords – aggressive and sharp sequences of disonances make the main part of it. It’s mixed up to soft and dreamy consonances and the chords of strange combos. The rhythmic section is wide and universal. It’s also organic and made by suitable and creative way. Afroamerican, Western African mjusic rhythms are fused together with typical rhythmic figures of bebop, post bop, hard bop, wild, frantic and furious free rhythmical improvisations or stable rhythms of cool, mainstream and contemporary jazz. The melody line is the basic of whole pattern. It’s individual, polyphonic, extremely powerful, vibrant, driving and wild. Saxophones by Paul Dunmall bring inspring, vivid, dynamic and sparkling sound to the music. Expressive melodies, luminous and vibrant culminations, roaring, hypnotising, terrific, furious and crazy riffs, urgling, striking and thrilling blow outs – all these elements gently fit together and are mixed up to relaxing and silent pauses, subtle free improvisations or dreamy contemplations. Penny whistle’s tunes bring bright, exotic and original sound. It’s used as a nice and effective coloristic. Saxophonist makes an expressive, inventive and exceptional sound. More drive and energy are brought to the compositions by trumpeter Percy Pursglove. Struggling, blowing, urgling, hot, aggressive, furious, sharp and expressive soloss are filled with gorgeous ornaments, transcendental passages, dizzy glissando, passionate and moving riffs, remarkable melodies, exclusive and virtuosic playing technique and development of innovative, exceptional and original sound. Steve Tromans piano tunes are simply amazing and bright. Pianist is improvising moody and active. His solos make a great combo with saxophone and trumpet, as well as with the other instruments. From silent and relaxing excerpts, light and dreamy tunes, slow contemplations, minimalistic pieces with simple texture and stable harmony the music strikes and jumps on adventurous, thrilling, passionate, wild, crazy, furious and dramatic culminations, vibrant and perturbating sessions, frantic sequences of disonances, extended playing techniques, masterful virtuosity and charming passages. Stable and tight bass line is created by bassist Dave Kane. That’s not the only one function of bass – the bass has effective, universal and original sound. It’s created by using wide range of special effects, sonoristic experiments, research of original and extended playing techniques, stylistic allusions and effective ways of playing. Bass melodies have driving, expressive, effective and dynamic sound. It’s a set of huge amount of expressions, tunes, sounds, emotions and playing techniques mixed up with passion, pleasure and creativity. Hamid Drake’s drums section is breaking, driving and passionate. Hot and thrilling riffs, fantastic, impressive and charming solos, breaking and driving sessions, stable and calm beats, monotonic series, frantic and turbulent culminations – that’s the main elements who make this section moving, interesting, expressive and simply amazing. The music has innovative and unique sound.
