“Unanimity” is a release of 2018. Album was recorded by five stars of American avant-garde Jazz scene – it’s Daniel Carter (multi-instrumentalist), Stelios Mihas (guitar), Vasko Dukovski (clarinets), Jeff Harshbarger (bass) and George Spanos (drums). Music of this quintet is live, dynamic and filled with explosions and hot spills of energy. Five great musicians are the main figures of American avant-garde jazz scene for many years now. They also are famous in international jazz scene – musicians are collaborating with dozens of other jazz stars of Europe and America. All of them are individual and inventive improvisers – they’ve got their own styles, motions, characters and sounds of improvising. The compositions are always based on avant-garde jazz. Furious and turbulent free improvisations, frantic solos, crazy ideas, weird timbres and shocking musical experiments – all these elements always make an effort to base of the music. Improvisers don’t have strict frames – they fastly avance in fresh, new and evocative avant-garde jazz, who’s filled with unconventional, fascinating and innovative tendencies and experiments. Music is bright, passionate and remarkable all the time.

The improvisers create bright, luminous and remarkable sound. All the compositions of “Unanimity” are based on collective improvisations, weird combos, exotic timbres, rare instrumental pairs and basics of avant-garde jazz. Musicians also add dozens of other styles, genuine expressions, specific timbres and shocking musical experiments. The music is moving, tremendous and impressive. The roots of 1960’s avant-garde jazz are mixed up with bebop, post bop, hard bop, other modern jazz styles, soft tunes of contemporary and progressive jazz. The instrumental combo is ordinary to avant-garde jazz ensemble – solid reeds line, illustrated with colorful background and contrasting, dynamic and bright rhythmic section. Each musician is improvising different – they have their own style, set of original and exceptional timbres, unique expressions and moving sounds. Rich facture, abstract form, open structure, dozens of new expressions, outrageous timbres and sounds – all these elements are combined together with fantastic solos, luminous melodies and turbulent culminations. Daniel Carter brings new colors and creates main mood of compositions. His clarinet’s, saxophones and other reeds tunes make warm, touching and impressive mood. Vivid, trembling and moving solos, bright and vibrant blow outs, passionate culminations, spontaneous and furious fast passages all together with playful, funny, joyful, glorious, solemn, soft, angry, aggressive and noisy excerpts make an effort to whole sound. The improviser likes to create many different layers – each instrument is used in modern and new way. The technical abilities are expanded – wide range of new, specific or home-made playing techniques are combined with traditional and very well-known ways of playing. That’s how incredible and innovative instrumentation is created. Fascinating and experimental instrumentation is the main key of all quintet’s improvisations, but it hears the most in Daniel Carter’s, Vasko Dukovski and George Spanos improvisations. Daniel Carter solos are filled with colors, combos, ambitions and characters – it keeps strong melodic line, suggestive sound and innovative ways of playing. Vasko Dukovski clarinet – moving, aggressive and luminous. It gets static, calm, relaxing or meditative in some episodes. Aggressive, sharp and expressive playing manner is switching places with cosy, warm and peaceful way of playing. The manners and motions are expressed in every case, when it’s possible – musician plays much of attention to it. He’s the master of creating vivid, joyful and light melodies with turbulent culminations, passionate risings and subtle excerpts. His improvisations is a surprising, moving and dynamic mix of roaring blow outs, light and soft melodies, vivid and remarkable excerpts, romantic and calm pieces or angry, furious and crazy spills of energy. All made with passion, drive, energy and joy. Guitarist Stelios Mihas and bassist Jeff Harshbarger make a pleasant combo with reeds and with each other. Artsy combinations of sounds, timbres and characters are filled with light, moving and gentle solos of guitar, subtle and deep sounds of bass, tremendous culminations, vibrant and franky duos or abstract and free searches of new sounds. Bass keeps solid bass line – it’s vibrant, dark and stable. Repetitive tunes are illustrated with slow effective solos, passionate movings and gorgeous timbres. Guitar brings lightness, joy and passion to the music. It’s gently mixed with reeds. The improvisations are filled with dizzy passages, flowing and enchanting melodies, remarkable solos and fascinating sound experiments. George Spanos is the leader of drums section. He manages to create modern and sparkling drums section. Stable, quadratic and strict changes to moving, dynamic and active – all kinds of rhythmics and its forms are used here. Stubborn, ambitious and angry excerpts are mixed with light, soft, sweet, bright, furious, angry, aggressive or simply remarkable, joyful and humorous episodes. The music of this album is played by five jazz stars – their creativity, fantasy and wild imagination helps to create fascinating sound.
