5 Of The Darkest Albums Of The 1990s

The 90s was a time of very dark music in metal and rock music. We seen the decline of thrash and hair metal, and the rise of grunge and industrial. Here are 5 dark Albums of the 90s.

Number 5: In Utero Nirvana

This album is a classic, and it was Nirvana’s last album before Kurt’s passing. In Utero is unpolished, heavy, and dark; the way grunge was intended to be. Songs like ‘Milk It’ display the angst of Cobain.

Number 4:  Tool Ænima

Ænima is the follow-up to Undertow and follows a darker, more progressive approach. Songs like ‘Third Eye’ possess an element of progression and darkness, and prove this album to be a masterpiece. Other songs to mention are ‘H.’ and Ænima.

Number 3: Superunknown

Superunknown is my favorite grunge album, and one of my albums of all time. Songs like ‘The Day I Tried To Live’ and ‘Black Hole Sun’ are perfect examples of how dark this album can get. Soundgarden is one of the best bands at creating this sound.

Number 2: Antichrist Superstar Marilyn Manson

Antichrist Superstar propelled Manson to rockstar status. This is a concept album about a boy who becomes the antichrist. This album is violent and villainous, ‘Irresponsible Hate Anthem’ is a prime example.

Number 1: Korn Self-Titled

Korn’s debut album is by far the darkest album of the 90s, in my opinion. The album deals with hardships of Johnathan Davis’ life including being bullied and molested by his own father. Even the album cover provides a chilling vibe; this album is truly a classic.
