The Career of Elton John
What an amazing Music career he’s had. It has spanned the last 60 years, and selling over 250 million records.
Awards
His awards include:
- 5 Grammys plus a Grammy Legend Award
- 12 Ivor Novello Awards
- 4 Brit Awards including the first Brits Icon in 2013 for his “lasting impact on British culture” and two awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music
- A Polar Music Prize
- An Academy Award
- A Golden Globe Award
- A Tony Award
- A Disney Legends award
- The Kennedy Center Honors in 2004
- He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame along with Bernie Taupin in 1992 and together they received the SHoF Johnny Mercer Award in 2013
- Also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994
- Awarded a CBE by the Queen in 1998
In addition to achieving 38 gold and 31 platinum or multi-platinum albums, Elton John has composed Broadway musicals and film soundtracks.

Personally, his collaboration with Eminem has to be the most unexpected. However, it is brilliant, and that’s no suprise. This performance was in response to protests from gay and lesbian activists, accusing Eminem of being a homophobe due to the lyrics in this song.
Charitable Work
Elton is Patron or Ambassador to 23 charities. He founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992, as well as continually championing LGBT social movements worldwide.
And Finally….
Funnily enough, I just so happened to watch The Lion King film yesterday with my daughter. This was prior to finding out about the weekly theme. We and did a lot of crying! Here’s one of my Elton John OCs for the week, joined by the beautiful voice of Danny_SPG.
