My Top 10 Albums of All Time

So here goes nothing, my top 10 Albums of all time. It’s much trickier than you think to condense your music collection into just 10 favourites. But I’ll give it a go. I’m also going to include my top track from each Album, so you can have a listen.

And My Top 10 Albums Are……

10. Bright Lights – Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding released this album in November 2010. It was a re-release of her debut album ‘Lights’. It’s one I come back to time and time again, so it had to feature in my top 10 albums. My favourite song from this album is the 1st track, ‘Guns and Horses’.

9. Demon Days – Gorillaz

The second Album Released by the ‘virtual band’ Gorillaz in May 2005. The concept of a ‘virtual band’ in itself is genius. Such scope. Be and create anything you want. Work with as many or as few people as you like. This album is just stunning. It absolutely deserves a spot on my top 10 albums. I particularly like the 3rd  track ‘Kids With Guns’.

8. I Am… Sasha Fierce – Beyonce

She’s a diva like no other. I’ve followed Beyonce’s music since the early days of Destiny’s Child. This was her 3rd solo album, released in November 2008. In my opinion, this was her best music. I love the 6th track ‘Sweet Dreams’ the most.

7. X & Y – Coldplay

X&Y is Coldplay’s 3rd album, released in June 2005. This album featured heavily in a very dark time in my life. I don’t bring myself to listen to it much, because it holds so many memories. However, it absolutely deserves a place in my top 10 albums. The 8th track ‘A Message’ holds the most meaning to me from that time.

6. Only By The Night – Kings of Leon

The 4th album by Kings of Leon, released in September 2008. I love the sound of this album. It’s sexy and earthy. I still play tracks from this album regularly, so it has to be in my top 10 albums. My favourite song from the album is the 7th track, ’17’.

5. Lungs – Florence and The Machine

The debut album by Florence and The Machine released in July 2009. I remember watching Glastonbury on TV when she performed on the John Peel Stage. I was mesmerized. I’ve played this album over and over. Track 7, ‘Drumming Song’ is my absolute favourite.

4. Films About Ghosts – Counting Crows

This is the ‘Best of…’ album released by the Counting Crows in November 2003. As the name suggests, it contains most of their best songs up to that time. There isn’t a single song I don’t like on this album. My favourite, however, is track 15, ‘Holiday in Spain’ taken from the album ‘Hard Candy’.

3. O – Damien Rice

‘O’ was Damien Rice’s debut album, released in February 2002. This album has such a beautiful sound. I love almost all of Damien’s work to be honest. But this album, in particular, I felt deserved to be in my top 10 albums. I’ve covered so many of the tracks on Smule. If I had to choose a favourite, it would have to be the 2nd track, ‘Volcano’.

2. La Roux – La Roux

The self titled album  La Roux was their debut, released in June 2009. Honestly, I hadn’t paid much attention to La Roux. Then I received their CD for Christmas. I instantly fell in love with the album. It’s completely different to any other music I listen to on a regular basis. Track 7, ‘Cover My Eyes’ is my favourite.

Drum roll please……… my number 1 album of all time is:

1. Every Kingdom – Ben Howard

I adore this album. I could listen to it on repeat for hours. In fact, I have, many times. The style of music, the songs, the guitar, his voice…. all stunning. This was Ben Howard’s debut album, released in September 2011. The 7th track, ‘Keep Your Head Up’ has particular meaning to me and is one of my all time favourite songs.

Thanks for joining me on this journey through my top 10 albums. It’s been a pleasure. I hope you enjoyed my choices. Let me know your top picks in the comments.
