ABQ is a four-piece indie pop Band from Belfast currently showing off their enigmatic music on stages around the UK. They have just released their debut single 'Takes So Long' which is an anthemic, adrenaline-fuelled track with a power-rock chorus and vocals drenched in passion. It's about being out of control, feeling overwhelmed and needing some time out which resonates in the lyrics, "So this is where you go when you need to get away".
The band has already worked with Mats Valentin (Carpark North), Ben Langmaid (La Roux), and Joe Cleere and have been compared to groups including Imagine Dragons, Snow Patrol, and Biffy Clyro. Paul Shevlin, ABQ's lead vocalist is the previous winner of the BPI / BRIT Awards sponsored ‘Next Brit Thing’ and it's no surprise as his voice has a raw quality tinged with emotion. It will be interesting to see what ABQ deliver going forward after such a standout debut.
If you're heading to Brighton over the next few days then make sure you check out rising band ABQ.
