070 Shake has released a very stylish EP in 'Glitter' which features inescapable hooks, dreamy soundscapes, sugar and grit and honest lyricism. There's nothing not to love about this project. 070 Shake grew up in North Bergen and is part of the New Jersey-based 070 collective. She started making waves when she shared sung-rapped tracks on her SoundCloud and released her single 'Trust Nobody' in 2016. The following year she caught the attention of Kanye West and signed to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam.

'Glitter' is a personal diary of what it's like to deal with addiction, sexuality and depression. However, it's wrapped up in a seductive package of rich, textural production, genre-blending and the effortlessly cool perspective of 070 Shake.

The EP opens with 'I Laugh When I'm With Friends But Sad When I'm Alone' with deft lyrics and a sing-song rap which wouldn't sound out of place on an early Drake album:

"And it's not just you and me the whole youth is depressed, living with the devil constant battle every day, wake up got to talk to people but I don't know what to say, and they're telling me again on my ask, I was born on the wrong path, and I'm trying to solve these problems but I was always bad at math."

Other stand out tracks include the mournful ballad of 'Somebody Like Me' featuring a snappy rap by 070Phi. 'Lost In Love' offers a compelling ethereal, shimmering beat and 'Stranger' is Post Malone-esque and super dreamy with an edgy, distorted beat and a syrupy core. The finale 'Glitter' takes a different stance with a powerful, cinematic jam with orchestral and operatic underlay and rich atmospheric soundscape.

'Glitter' is one of my favourite EPs this year and 070 Shake one of my most exciting discoveries.
