Today’s menu of electro-pop brings us to a new release called 'Bad Influence' from London-based July Jones. This track actually gave me a tiny jump at the intro. The song starts out being quiet and gentle with a soft piano and July Jones’ lovely voice in the background. Then without any kind of warning, you’re blasted with three thumps of bass, and suddenly your heart is beating as hard as the beat itself. Moving past that, the track is rather slow-paced, but the beat can definitely get your hips moving. The instrumentals wave in and out between the bass, which I feel is a cool sound because it gives texture. If you’re a basshead like myself, you’ll know exactly what I mean by “fluffy.” I suggest you add 'Bad Influence' to your playlist as soon as you hear it!
July Jones has announced alongside her new single 'Bad Influence' that Topshop, in conjunction with fashion brand MK Exclusive, will stock a line of limited edition July Jones BADPACKS (influenced by July’s own style and the Bad Influence artwork) in their flagship Oxford Street store and online this month.
‘Bad Influence’ is a change of direction from what July was doing musically when we featured her last. She is experimenting with a dark pop, grungy electro sound which really suits her, but also shows how versatile she is. She comments on her latest release 'Bad Influence',
“It’s about the influence people can have on each other, even if they lead you momentarily off course, you still just go with it because it can be fun an exciting - The everyday life experiences that we all face when we are young - we go and try things, we break the rules”
