'Snow II' Is A Stunning New Single From Wyvern Lingo

Best friends from Ireland; Caoimhe Barry, Karen Cowley and Saoirse Duane, make up Wveryn Lingo, a three-piece band smashing their way through the music scene. A self-released EP caught the ear of Irish label Rubyworks, and the band toured with Hozier in the UK and at home in Ireland. Wyvern Lingo are releasing their debut album in February 2018, let's try and save a few pounds from our Christmas money for that…
Their most recent single ‘Snow II’ is definitely not a Christmas hit as you may be thinking. Caoimhe Barry, lead vocals on the tracks comments, “'Snow II' is partly written as a response to Simon and Garfunkel's 'I Am A Rock'. It’s from the perspective of the person trying to reach an ex lover who is in that dark place, cutting themselves off from the world.” She adds - “It's about wanting to comfort them, but you can't speak to them or hold them like you might have when you were in a relationship, and how sad and confusing that is.” It hits you right in the feels.
When I first glanced at the photo of the girls on the cover of their new Song ‘Snow II’ I was like "Is that
Zara Larsson?" (Karen Cowley looks very much like her in that picture), "are these girls like Haim’s
hip cousins?" And "why have I never heard of them before?" The song is so immediately soothing. Y
ou can listen to it on a crowded London train and it can make you feel like you’re alone, embracing the lyrics. You could listen to it in your car, windows down, hair blowing in the wind while
every memory runs back to you. "I’m safe within my room" are some of the lyrics from 'Snow II' and they
describe how you are shut away from the real world. Locked away while you sit in your room, safe and sound, listening to your own emotions. As a teenager myself, this is extremely relatable, and not just because I want to shut out my sister who loves to barge in…
There is a sprinkling of R&B-style vocal harmonies in 'Snow II' and with the main lyrics being "the silence of snow" it adds a delicate feeling to the song. Not just describing the fact you had once fallen
head over heels for someone but what happens when that love drug is torn apart and there will always be
pain. The lyric "inside the candle burns" is sung so soft and beautiful, possibly meaning that the
relationship is burning away but the light isn’t quite out yet, just like a candle. It makes you question your ability to love, affection and relationships. You feel hopeless, yet longing to see your lost
love and to make amends, but you know you can’t. "All I want to do is hold his face in my hand and
on the pillow, his head lies, and I have to understand." Deep, right? The slowness of the song and the
perfection of the voices and backing music all together makes you feel like you are not just listening to a song, but you are part of a story. A story where as soon as someone says goodbye, you don’t just go off. You are part of a story where the lyrics take you to a place where you still have to understand the person you loved even if you are no longer in love with them. The struggle of seeing someone you once loved stranded in a sea of emotions, that you can no longer help. You are no longer floating.
We hear this comment a lot around this time of year that "NEXT YEAR WILL BE MY YEAR". And I truly believe that Wyvern Lingo can say 2018 will be their year, you wait and see.
