Bentley Continental GT – Review

If you have watched a Top Gear episode where a Bentley Continental GT has featured, you will have heard jokes about how because of its weights, it is an English country manor or that it is only driven by Premier League footballers. However, with this new model, all those complaints have watered down and slipped away. The new Continental GT is a 4-seater luxury sports car that can dominate the road and if you’re driving it, you notice heads turn as your rumble passed.

GT Engine

If you were looking for a luxurious sports car that you can use every day, then you should very much consider the Bentley. In 2012, Bentley introduced a V8 model of the GT and when compared to its 6-litre W12 model, the 4-litre V8 now comes out on top with regards to cost because it is 10% cheaper and is more efficient, however it obviously has less power behind it. The W12 develops appalling mpg, but then if you are purchasing a Continental GT then fuel economy isn’t a major priority for you.

Bentley actually updated their W12 engine in 2014 to increase the power even further and if you are interested in a truly powerful Bentley, then take on the Bentley Continental GT Speed that has a top speed of 206 MPH and can sprint from 0-62 in an impressive 4.2 seconds.

Manor House Weight

The main reason the jokes about the country manor come about is because the Continental GT is not a light car. Not even close. It weighs over two tonnes. But while you might assume that the weight damages the handling in anyway, then you would be mistaken. This car is great at low speeds and is a smooth and extremely comfortable ride, but when it you reach the higher speeds, it gets even better.

It higher speeds, the steering actually feels improved, ensuring the car has excellent stability and huge reserves of grip when you throw it into a corner, ensuring that the Continental GT can drive fast, handle well and look amazing all at the same time. Then again, Bentley does also design some of the best Endurance GT cars on the circuits.

Please come inside, sir

Let’s talk about the interior now. Bentley have always been well known for making some of the most luxurious interiors on the market. It never disappoints with the GT. The interior is all contrast stitch and pipe and quilt and carbon fibre as well as beautiful leather.

In the front of the car, the driver and passenger will greatly enjoy a large amount of space, as well as a twin armrest with a full length console that has a walnut veneer and chrome dials. The gearstick is also designed with chrome and hide with the famous Bentley B staring up at you. The cabin is also fantastic at isolating unwanted outside noise when you are speeding along.

Price and value?

With all honestly, if you can afford any car that compares with the Continental GT, then money isn’t really an issue for you. When asked if the Bentley Continental GT is a cheap car, the answer will obviously be no. The standard V8 starts at £125K and rises up through the trims to nearly £170,000 so cheap is not a word you can use for the GT. However, is the price worth it when you consider the brand, the image, the performance and interior, exterior and overall quality? Hell yes.

If you want the most affordable Bentley, then take a look at the V8 model. If you are after speed, then obviously take on the Continental GT Speed. But if you are looking for a high quality Grand Tourer, then you cannot go wrong with the Continental GT, except if you are put off by its past buyers that have corrupted its image.

Prestige cars represent so many things, including success, power, speed, luxury and overall love of cars and driving. The Bentley Continental GT should be seen as a product of all those things combined into one glorious car. If you can find a Prestige car sales group, we advise checking if they have a one in stock.
