Should I Lift My 4×4?

What Is A Lift Kit?

A 4×4 Lift kit is a modification to increase the ride height of your vehicle. Whether it is to enable you to have larger / chunkier tyres, improving off road performance or simply for cosmetic purposes.

What Types Of Lift Kit Are There?

  • Body Lift Kit: Inserting lifting blocks in-between the body and the chassis.
  • Suspension Lift: Usually taller springs and shocks on the rear or all round.

Pros Of A Body Lift:

  • A cost effective way to lift your 4×4.
  • Doesn’t change the quality of how your 4×4 rides.
  • No need to purchase new shock absorbers.
  • Gives tyres more clearance, keeping the standard suspension set-up.

Cons Of A Body Lift:

  • Can be a time consuming job to do.
  • Gaps in-between the body panels, and frame being visible.
  • Changes the centre of gravity of your 4×4.

Pros Of A Suspension Lift:

  • Makes suspension more articulate.
  • Can be bought in varying heights.
  • Can increase your 4×4’s payload.

Cons of A Suspension Lift:

  • The inconvenience of climbing in and out of a lifted 4×4.
  • Upkeep costs, Lifting your 4×4 will cause strain on other components.
  • Fitment of a lift may void warranty on your 4×4 or warranty on the parts themselves.
  • Suspension lifts are usually more costly to purchase than a body lift.
