When you think of flat track racing, I bet the name Moto Guzzi does not pop into your head. Flat track racing which is mostly dominated by Indian, Harley Davidson and a Triumphs might just see a new opponent after seeing this thing. The boys over at Cafe Racer Napoli picked an unusual suspect, the Moto Guzzi Griso for their flat tracker build and it could not have turned out any better. Now onto the Moto Guzzi Griso Flat Tracker.
Flat Track racing is all about stripped down and light weight bikes, which the Guzzi is not. Their first line of work was to get the weight down. They stripped the bike down to it’s bare essentials and brought the weight down to about 170 kg. Next was to get the styling of the bike right and away from the bulky look of the Griso. A custom tank and tail section were created that flow perfectly together and have that classic 70’s flat track look.
On to the performance, they looked at the front and rear suspension. Up front is a custom set of billet triple holding the new standard forks. In the rear, to accommodate the 19″ wheels, the swing-arm had to me stretched. This created a true challenge being that the Guzzi is shaft drive, but they pulled it off. Topping the performance off is a truely awesome custom exhaust system with dual mufflers exiting under the tail section.
We have seen a lot of custom Moto Guzzi’s but this is one of our favorite due to its unique styling not normally seen on a Guzzi. This bike was built for the Lord of the Bikes 2017 which is a competition set up by Moto Guzzi. Top Guzzi shops battle it out in 5 episodes against each other to see who can be on the top.
