Oyster mushrooms are great on the grill. This recipe works best on a stove-top grill plate, as opposed to an outdoor grill. If you find some fresh Oyster Mushrooms, give this a try. It also works great with Portobello, button mushrooms, shiitakes, and others.
Grilled Oyster Mushrooms
- 1/3 pound oyster mushrooms
- 1 clove garlic, pressed
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger, finely chopped
- Small bundle of thyme, leaves finely chopped
- 1 to 2 tablespoons tamari
- 2 tablespoons water
The process…
Wipe away any dirt that might be on the mushrooms, but better not to wash them under water; keep them dry. Also remove any woody parts, perhaps from the stems.
Make a marinade by mixing the tamari, water, garlic, ginger, and thyme. Start with 1 tablespoon of tamari. Taste the marinade and add more tamari if necessary. You don’t want it to be too salty.
Toss the mushrooms with the marinade and let sit for about 20 mins or more. Bring the grill plate to high heat and grill about 2 minutes per side.
