Apr 3, Coming to Terms with Your Illness

One of the hardest things for us to accept when we develop some type of Illness, whether it is diabetes, cancer, or Lyme Disease, is that something we are doing (or not doing) has a lot to do with causing it.
It took me decades to force myself to change my diet and to find and buy the supplements that give me the protection I need from the many diseases that can take root in us when our immune system doesn't have the antioxidants and the other raw materials to protect us.
My consolation prize for changing my diet and paying for the best supplements was that my chronic back pain disappeared and I haven't had so much as a cold since the changes took effect.
Many people have terribly painful physical ailments, but when I tell them what I have found -- mostly learned from the most intelligent doctor I have met -- they never buy them, perhaps thinking I am trying to disingenuously sell them something for my own gain. No,I'm simply passing along the best solution I have found.
Your typical MD sells nothing that your body really needs. You are deficient in natural substances, like vitamins and minerals, which your MD doesn't sell (there's not the potential for 1000% markups that he or she likes). Nevertheless, most people don't begrudge paying for the doctor's services and products, even though they often produce long term negative effects.
Emotional resilience is another big factor that we need to protect us from disease. Another way of looking at this is to say, "I refuse to let myself get caught up in relationships, jobs, and lifestyles that aren't in line with what I want out of life." Emotional trauma often precipitates physical disease, so protecting yourself from it is sometimes the best thing you can do.
