Chiropractic Treatment – How Much Do I Need?

Listen to your inner voice and ask lots of questions!

I’m often asked ‘how much Chiropractic Treatment do I need?’ That’s not surprising at all since I’m a chiropractor.  What is surprising is that this question often comes from people who have had a consultation with another chiropractor.

I’m always happy to see these people because it means they’re asking important questions and taking an active interest in their health.  And that’s a good thing!  So, how much chiropractic treatment does a person really need?

Chiropractic Treatment – The Amount You Need Depends On A Number Of Things

The truth is, it really depends on your condition, and what your goals are with Treatment.  For instance, whiplash injuries typically take longer to heal than simple neck pain.  So while I can’t give you a specific recommendation, I can offer some guidance to help you make an informed decision.

The Chiropractic Treatment Plan

At least 2-3 times per month, someone will arrive at my office with a folder in hand and lot of questions.  They’ve just come from another Chiropractic clinic, and the folder contains a laundry list of things that are ‘wrong’ with them.  This folder usually contains a proposed treatment plan as well.

This plan typically recommends a course of treatment with a specific number of visits.  I’ve seen treatment plans that recommend 4-6 visits.  I’ve also seen plans requiring 40-60 visits, and the patient is expected to prepay for all visits up front.

Your Experience Should Feel Right

Chiropractic treatment can be really helpful for a variety of injuries and complaints.  But you need to find a provider that feels right and fits your needs.  That will ensure a better experience.

In the example above, maybe you need 40-60 visits, but what if you’re all better in 10?  What if you have a terrible experience and want to stop care sooner?  Make sure you find out what your options are ahead of time.

Do Your Homework –  Ask Questions!

I tell people they can save a lot of time (and money) by asking themselves 3 simple questions when looking for a chiropractor:

1.  What Are Your Treatment Goals?

You’d be surprised how often a provider’s treatment goals differ from a patient’s.  This usually comes from poor communication. You’re the patient, you’re in charge, and the doctor’s goals should reflect your goals, and not the other way around.

2.  Does The Proposed Chiropractic Treatment Plan Seem Reasonable?

If you present to a doctor with a stiff neck, and that doctor tells you you’re going to need 2 years of treatment, ask yourself if it seems reasonable.  It may, but if it doesn’t consider getting a second opinion.

3.  Have All Of Your Questions Been Answered To Your Satisfaction?

Again, you’re the consumer and you’re in charge.  If you have any questions at all – there are NO dumb questions when it comes to your health – you need to ask them.  And, they need to be answered to your satisfaction.  If you’re not getting answers, or you’re not satisfied with the ones you are getting, consider another opinion.

Do Your Homework Before Deciding

Choose your chiropractor the same way you would make a major purchase – do your research, shop around, and make an informed decision based on all of the information presented to you.  It might take a little more work, but you’ll be happier in the long run.

And if you’re looking for a Chiropractor in Bellevue, or simply want a second opinion, please consider scheduling a free consultation.  If you can give us 20 minutes, we’ll give you answers.
