This Awesome Telangana College Shelters a Secret All Animal Lovers Will Love!

If you visit the campus of KG Reddy College of Engineering and Technology at Moinabad, Telangana, you’d be impressed at how this space not only imparts education but is also a haven for abandoned and rescued animals.

Dogs, cats, pigeons, ducks, turkeys, hens and rabbits, are some of the animals that can be spotted around the space! Don’t be surprised if you see them accompanying the students on the college bus.

The credit for this innovative idea goes to 20-year-old Mohammed Zabi Khan, an animal rights activist!

Zabi was only 13 when he started working for animal rights. By the age of 16, he had already founded a registered NGO, A Place To Bark Society, and started running a rescue-and-adoption shelter. The animal lover managed to rescue over 500 animals and rehabilitated around 3,000 animals in the last seven years.

Speaking to The Times of India, Zabi shares how the idea which started as a personal project became a campus-initiative.

“I first rented a place near my house to run the shelter home, but when it became difficult to manage my academics and the shelter, I discussed with our Principal, Director and HOD about the idea of opening one at the college, and they supported the initiative,” said Zabi.

Zabi’s professor, Saidi Reddy who encouraged him after Zabi shared his idea, said, “He was so determined to make sure it happens. He has now transformed the college into a beautiful shelter which is setting an example for all the other students. I firmly believe that all the students should be given a chance to express their passion, and colleges should work towards creating students who are more empathetic towards life.”

“It’s important for every institution to make an effort to support students who are an asset to society. We are very proud of Zabi, who is a role model for other students, and a blessing to our institution. He has set an example for the present generation,’’ he told TOI.

This young man is now training 25 young social entrepreneurs from his college on subjects ranging from women empowerment to child abuse.

We wish this college-cum-animal sanctuary the very best and hope many more institutions come forward to replicate their model!
