The OG Weekender: 10.13.17

It may be Friday the 13th, but there’s no reason to be afraid! We’re gearing up for another great weekend in the Gem City and there’s plenty to do. From fun local events to the latest in marketing news, we’ve got the scoop in this edition of the Weekender:

Share a meal and conversation at The Longest Table – Main Meal

At last year’s kickoff event, hundreds of Daytonians came together to break bread and join in a conversation about improving our city. And for the last year, the Longest Table team has been hosting monthly meals in neighborhoods and community centers to bring Dayton together. On October 14th, the Longest Table is returning to the  Third Street “Peace Bridge” for another main meal and you can join! Register here to learn more and become a part of the Longest Table movement.

Check out the Yellow Springs Street Fair

The annual Yellow Springs Street Fair features over 250 booths selling fine arts and crafts, clothing, jewelry, and artisan goods. The event also features live music from local bands on two stages and Free and over 65 shops and food vendors. Free and open to the public on Saturday, October 14.

Stop by the 48th Annual Ohio Sauerkraut Festival

The Ohio Sauerkraut Festival in Waynesville has grown from a small community event in 1970 to one of the biggest festivals in Ohio. This weekend you can find a variety of food offerings, from sauerkraut pizza to sauerkraut fudge. But there’s more than just food; you can also check out fine crafts including woodworking, ceramics, and painting.

New in social media:

Facebook 3D posts are coming to your News Feed

Facebook’s newsfeed started at a text-only platform and has since evolved to include images, live video, and 360-videos. Now Facebook is previewing 3D posts, a new type of News Feed post where users can interact with a 3D object without using a VR headset.

Snapchat launches Context Cards

With Snapchat’s new feature, Context Cards, users can swipe up on a photo with a geotag to learn more about the Snap. For example, if a Snap has a location sticker for a restaurant, you can swipe up to find the location’s hours, read reviews, book a reservation, find directions and peruse the menu.

LinkedIn ushers in video advertisements

LinkedIn is finally adding video ads to its platform. The “sponsored content” video ads will debut first on mobile before becoming available on desktop and are available to only a select number of advertisers as a preview, according to AdWeek. The new video option will allow advertisers to target using data from LinkedIn member profiles, including job title, company size, and location.

Have a great weekend!
