G7 Calls for Creating Global Technical Standards for Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Reuters reported that the Group of Seven (G7) nation leaders called for the creation and enforcement of Technical Standards to keep artificial intelligence (AI) “trustworthy,” stating governance of the technology is not able to keep pace with its growth.

During the meeting in Hiroshima, Japan, of G7 leaders, they understood the strategies for achieving “the shared vision and goal of trustworthy AI may differ.” Their statement suggests that the regulations for digital technologies such as AI should be “aligned with our common democratic values.”

The agreement came after the participation of the European Union in the G7, which inched closer to enforcing legislation with rules for AI technology this month. It could potentially be the first comprehensive AI law globally that could be an exemplar among other economies.
